And then there was NutraSweet – an off-the-cuff joint.

I’m not a big fan of “what’s your favourite” questions because mostly, I don’t have favourites, and people tend to think that’s odd.

What is your favorite drink?

Whereas I think having favourites for categories so broad as drink, book, car, and movie is the strange choice.

What kind of drink are we talking about, anyway? Favourite hot drink? Favourite still drink? Favourite carbonated beverage? Favourite liquor? Favourite wine?

And can we agree water is out? We need it to live: there’s no favouritism required though a cold glass on a hot day is a lovely thing.

Irish Breakfast Tea, diet iced tea – Crystal Light, usually, Diet Coke (it flips with Diet Pepsi every decade or so), tequila, and rosé are my answers to the above in case you were wondering.

There are calories in my choices except for the booze, and those are minimal, processed differently, and consumed infrequently.

I am in recovery from a decades-long (nearly forty years) eating disorder. My survival is a miracle, and my recovery something I don’t appreciate often enough. But I’m not the average consumer of vitals.

I’m not actively bulimic these days, but liquid calories are something I’m still mostly unable to embrace. I have regained soup.

I can’t even remember having a glass is juice.

I drink a lot of liquid over the course of the day. My various medications are quite dehydrating, so there’s always a glass of water and iced tea (diet) on the go.

But a favourite beverage? Mood, availability, and hydration level dependent. Though it’s never beer. That stuff is not for me. It’s the smell – I hate it.

  1. I actually like water a lot, but I also love hot chocolate, egg nog (non-alcoholic), Mexican Coke, Diet Dr. Pepper, and my most recent liquid obsession: Sparkling Ice…the grape raspberry flavor, in particular. I don’t drink alcohol, so those are all out of the running.

    1. I love Sparkling Ice – Costco flat? I forgot hot chocolate – for me that’s a very specific drink – I need to be cold and it needs to be winter.

Diet Dr. Pepper is awesome (I’m trying to stop using “awesome” as much, but I’m a GenX influence by the Valley Girls. I think I’m doomed lol)

      1. I almost never go to Costco—that’s a dangerous store for me. Everything seems smaller than it is, then I get it home and don’t have space for it.

I’ve been saying awesome for 40-ish years—there is no hope of banishing it from my everyday vocabulary now…it’s a solid habit.

        1. 😂😂 My parents bought a set of furniture from Costco years ago, but when they tried to bring it home, they learned that the size prevented it from going through the doors.
