Fun with quotes.*

We reduced ourselves to hysterics last night by butchering that most famous of quotes from The Outsiders. I love the giggles of game night. Trivial Pursuit often makes us silly. **

Stay gold, Ponyboy.
Stay gold, Boypony.

Stay, gold ponyboy.
Stay, gold boypony.

Stay, pony goldboy.
Stay, pony boygold.

Stay boy, Goldpony.
Stay boy, Ponygold.

I can keep going – there are twenty-four possible permutations with four variables – but they start getting repetitive. Besides, it doesn’t tickle the funny bone in quite the same way when you’re doing it by yourself the morning after.

I like “Stay, gold ponyboy” myself, with “Stay boy, Goldpony” a close second.

Which version tickles you the most?

Update: each time I read “Nothing gold can stay” by Frost, I love it more.

I like writing. Words help me unpack my thoughts so things can start to make sense. Once I have both myself and the universe figured out, I plan to take up macrame. "Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing, and learn as you go." E. L. Doctorow

  1. A pony would be a lovely addition to the household, though I’d hold out for the toilet-trained variety 😉 Also, socks. Hooves are murder on an uncarpeted floor. 😂
